ATWOOD -- Theresia Elizabeth (Kogl) Leitner, 97, of Atwood, died Saturday (April 28, 2006), at Rawlins County Health Center.

She was born Sept. 23, 1908, at the family farm west of Herndon. She attended Pitner country school and St. Mary's Catholic boarding school in Herndon through the 7th grade and was unable to continue school, having to stay home with her younger brothers and sisters.

On Oct. 15, 1929, she married Carl A. Leitner at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Herndon. The family lived in Herndon and Long Island, Kan. before moving to Atwood in 1937.

She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Christian Mothers Altar Society, both of Atwood, and Daughters of Isabella in Herndon.

She was a homemaker and a member of Happy Hour Extension Club for many years. She spent much of her time babysitting, cleaning and washing clothes for others in her community.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl in 1977; a son-in-law, Daryl Organ in 1981; a grandson in infancy; and a step-grandson; her sisters, Anna Weishapl, a 2-year-old sister, Helen, and Elizabeth in infancy; and brothers William, Clemens, Math, Joseph, Harry and infant Conrad.

She is survived by her two sons, Eugene and wife Mary Leiner and Kenneth Letiner; one daughter, Shirley Organ of Atwood, 9 grandchildren; sister-in-law Helen Kogl Kleidosty of Atwood; 21 great grandchildren; and 19 great-great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood, with the Rev. Damin Richards as celebrant. Interment ws in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Atwood.

Memorials may be addressed in her name to the Cemetery Directory Fund for Mount Calvary Cemetery in Atwood.
