ATWOOD -- Anna Galene (Dooley) Wiley, 93, died Monday (Feb. 20, 2006), at Atwood Good Samaritan Home.

She was born Oct. 27, 1912, at Fullerton to Byron and Anna Jane (Adams) Dooley. She attended school in Fullerton, graduating from high school in 1930.

She attended nurse's training at St. Catherine's Hospital in Omaha, graduating in 1934. Three years later she enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps, serving two tours of duty, in the Pacific Theater from 1937-1942 and in the European Theater from 1944-1945. She was stationed at Schofield Barracks near Pearl Harbor when World War II began and was stationed in England when it ended.

She was an active member of the First Methodist Churches in Garden City, Kan., and Atwood. She also was a member of Salamagundi Study Club, the school board, a couples supper club and an afternoon bowling league. Volunteer work included helping at Dr. Luther Fry's office and at the Mexican American Mission in Garden City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; five sisters; and one brother.

Survivors include two daughters, Lynn Gadberry of McMinnville, Ore., and Linda Lorimer of Atwood; a son, Gail Garton of Canada; a sister, Mildred Schilling of Dallas, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be Friday, 10 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Atwood. A memorial service and burial with military honors will be at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Atwood United Methodist Church and the Atwood Good Samaritan Center.
