ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. -- Stanley Gerald Daffer, 80, formerly of Murphy, N.C., died Friday (Feb. 10, 2006) at home.

He was born on a farm near Lebanon on Oct. 18,1925, to James S. and Erma Nicholson Daffer. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1943. He attended the University of Nebraska.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1950. He was wounded in action during the Korean conflict and was awarded a Purple Heart.

He was a member of the Carpenter's Union No. 696 in Tampa, Fla., a former member of Masonic Lodge No. 84 of Morris, Okla., American Legion and DAV.

He was also a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Zephyrhills, Fla., where he served as deacon and elder, and was an associate member of Ranger United Methodist Church in Murphy.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Dack; a brother, Reid Daffer; and a niece.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Wanier Daffer; daughters, Joyce and Laura Daffer of Zephyrhills, Fla., Janet Hall and husband, Ronnie of Childersburg, Ala., and Genie Cass and husband, Steve of Johannesburg, Mich.; sisters, Cora Teter of Cambridge, Velma Rohde of Omaha, Elsie Daffer and Ruby Leavitt and husband, Wayne of Ontario, Calif.; brother, Harlow and wife, Sandra Daffer of Danbury; mother-in-law, Leah Warner of Tampa; brothers-in-law, Blair and wife, Jane Warner of Cedartown, Ga., Dennis and wife, Kay Warner of Ocala, Fla., and Brad Warner of Oldsmar, Fla.; four grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends.

Services will be at the First Christian Church in Zephyrhills, Fla. Monday, 2 p.m., with the Rev. Eldon Earnest officiating. A memorial service will take place in Murphy at a later date. A graveside service and interment of ashes will be May 27 in Lebanon.

Memorials are being accepted in his name at the First Christian Church of Zephyrhills, Fla. or the Ranger United Methodist Church of Murphy.
