CURTIS -- Leland John Magee, 74, died Tuesday (Jan. 24, 2006) in Curtis.

He was born to LeRoy and Carrie Olga (Hansen) Magee at home, south of Maxwell. He attended country school and graduated from U.N.S.A. at Curtis.

On March 22, 1953, he married Geraldine Lenz in Las Vegas, Nev. They lived on a farm south of Curtis

He was a farmer and rancher and owned a construction company.

He served in the U.S. Marines from 1952 until 1954.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the American Legion, Farm Bureau. He was a 4-H leader, a County Commissioner, served on the School Board, was on the Southeast Nebraska RC and D Rural Fire Department and was a member of the Co-op Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Orval and Don; a sister and brother-in-law, Leona and Kenneth Ruppert; a sister, Betty Dean; a nephew; and in-laws, Albert and Grace Lenz.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine of Curtis; two sons, Mike and wife, Nancy Magee of Iowa and Scott Magee of Curtis; three daughters, Valeria and husband, Jim Hicks of North Dakota, Janet and husband, Nick Wells of Kansas and Kristie and husband, Tim Cocrane of North Carolina; a brother, Ferris and wife, Helen Magee of McCook; two sisters, Bonnie and husband, John Greco of North Platte and Shirley and husband, Jim Brunner of Sutherland; a sister-in-law, Genevieve Magee of Atwood; and 13 grandchildren.

Services will be Friday, 10 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Curtis with the Rev. Paul Warneke officiating. Interment will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post No. 95 of Curtis.

Visitation will be today, until 9 p.m., at Blase-Wetzel Funeral Home in Curtis.

Memorials are being accepted in his name.
