SIDNEY -- Rodney Bruce Alberts, 56, died Thursday (Jan. 5, 2006) at Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital in Denver, Colo.

He was born Sept. 13, 1949, to John and Phyllis (Poore) Alberts in McCook. He graduated from McCook High School in 1967. He graduated from McCook Junior College in May 1969. He completed his education at Peru State College, receiving a bachelor's in music education.

He married Kathleen Johnson in June 1969. He married Barbara VanAsten Jankowski on May 1, 1982. They made their home in Scottsbluff until opening a jewelry store in Sidney.

He worked for the Kirby Vacuum Company and had his own store in Falls City. He also lived in Nebraska City, Newton, Iowa, and Scottsbluff.

He was a member of the Nebraska/South Dakota Jewelers Association Board.

He was preceded in death by his father, John "Jack" Alberts.

Survivors include his wife, Barb Alberts of Sidney; two sons, Brandon Alberts of North Platte and S. Trevor and wife, Kimberly Alberts of Gering; one daughter, Kim Jankowski and fiancee, Jeffery Thorson of Sidney; his mother, Phyllis Alberts of McCook; two brothers, Jay and wife, Shirley Alberts of McCook and Larry and wife, Susan Alberts of Fort Worth, Texas; and one granddaughter.

Services will be Thursday, 11 a.m., at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney with the Rev. Guy Scmielau officiating. Cremation will follow, with inurnment at a later date.

Friends may call at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney Wednesday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Memorials are being accepted in his name.
