SYRACUSE, Kan. -- Wilma L. (Gallaher) Hess, 85, died Wednesday (Sept. 28, 2005) at the Hamilton County Hospital in Syracuse, Kan.

She was born Sept. 25, 1920, in Duck Hill, Miss., to Fresco and Bessie J. (Rinehart) Gallaher. She graduate from high school in Alva, Miss., in 1939. She attended Nursing School in Winona, Miss., and Chicago, Ill.

She married Earl L. Hess in Winona on April 9, 1944.

She worked as an RN for 33 years.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Syracuse, the American Legion Auxiliary, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and the American Red Cross.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fresco and Bessie Gallaher and her husband, Earl L. Hess.

Survivors include two sons, Alan E. and wife, Gena Hess of McCook and D. Glenn Hess of Syracuse; one daughter, LeAnn Hess of Syracuse; two brothers, Kendrick and wife, Katie Gallaher of Duck Hill and Rupert and wife, Mae Gallaher of Reinzi, Miss.; three sisters, Lucille and husband, John Anderson of Aurora, Ill., Verna Mae and husband, John Akers of Maumille, Ark., and Earlene Harris of Reinzi; one sister-in-law, Winona Demo of Scott City, Kan.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday, 2 p.m. MDT, at the First Presbyterian Church in Syracuse.

Visitation will be Saturday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. MDT, and Sunday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m. MDT, at the Greene-Fellers Funeral Home in Syracuse.
