Greenville, Tenn. -- Emily Donaldson Austin, 87, died Friday (July 29, 2005) at Takoma Adventist Hospital in Greeneville, Tenn.

She was born Aug. 14, 1917, to William Jay Donaldson and Emily Craig Donaldson in Knoxville, Tenn. She graduated from Mount Vernon College and attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

She married Tom Noell Austin in 1938. The couple moved to Greeneville, Tenn., then relocated to Lausanne, Switzerland, for 1955 and 1956, and subsequently moved back to Greeneville.

She spent her time doing outreach and community service. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and participated in such organizations as the Youth Builders of Greeneville Inc., the Westside Garden Club, the Tuesday Book Club, the Andrew Johnson Club, Link Hills Country Club and The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America.

Survivors include her husband Tom N. Austin; a daughter, Merrily Austin Teasley of Seagrove Beach, Fla.; three sons, Tom N. Austin Jr. and wife, Jane of Cummings, Ga., Jay D. Austin and wife, Eileen of McCook, and Richard L. Austin and wife, Marilyn of Kingsport, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Angy Donaldson Koella and husband, Richard of Knoxville, Tenn.

A memorial service will take place Saturday (Aug. 13, 2005), 2 p.m., at St. James Episcopal Church in Greeneville, Tenn. The Rev. Rowland L. Clarkson will officiate.

The family will receive friends in McMillan Hall, the parish hall adjacent to the church, before the service from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.

Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home in Greeneville, Tenn., is in charge of arrangements.
