Sarah Joy O'Mara

(March 11, 1945 - May 20, 2005)

EDDYVILLE -- Sarah Joy O'Mara, 60, died Friday (May 20, 2005), at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

She was born March 11, 1945 in Broken Bow, to Arthur and Lily (Weinman) Kinish. She lived near Anselmo and attended Rural District 58 until the seventh grade. Due to illness she received her eighth grade education by tutor at University Hospital in Omaha. She graduate from Notre Dame Academy in Omaha in May 1963. She continued her education at Kearney State College; graduating with a bachelor's of arts in business education in January 1969.

She married Kenneth O'Mara on May 28, 1966 in Anselmo.

She was a member of the Catholic Church. In recent years, she and Kenneth taught CCD at Christ the King in Gering and St. Ann's in Lexington.

She was involved with Assistive Technology and was a long standing member of Nebraska Right to Life, serving on the state board for the last 15 years and holding various offices including that of president.

In May 1972, while living in Indianola, she was honored with the McCook area "Mother of the Year" award.

She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur in 1984; brother-in-law, Mike Hickey in 1991; mother-in-law, LouElla in 1994; and father-in-law, Earl in 1999.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth of Eddyville; two sons, Richard O'Mara, and wife, Sherry of Okmulgee, Okla., and James O'Mara of Eddyville; one daughter, Julie of Damascus, Va.; her mother, Lily Kinish of Grand Island; four sisters, Barbara Dunn of Rushford, Minn., Angela Booton of Marshall, Mo., Virginia Hickey of Alda, and Karen Tullis of Gordon; one brother, Lois Hickey of Brady; special friend, Sister Lois Kinish of Brady; and three grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington. Internment will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery near Eddyville at 2:30 p.m.

Rosary will be Thursday at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington, at 7 p.m.

Visitation will be Thursday from 2 - 5 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Memorials are suggested to Nebraska Right to Life.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no flowers at the funeral.
