TRENTON -- Alvin Singleton, 92, formerly of the Wallace community, died Tuesday (May 17, 2005), at the El Dorado Nursing Manor in Trenton.

He was born Oct. 4, 1912 in Stanberry, Mo., to James and Nellie Sherry Singleton. He moved to Colorado with his family in 1915 and to western Nebraska in 1928. He worked for area farmers for 10 years before he and his future father-in-law purchased a gas station in Grainton.

Alvin married to Letha Young on Sept. 26, 1940, in Grainton. They made their home at the Young farmstead in northwestern Hayes County until they moved to Wallace in 1977. He moved to El Dorado Manor in 2002.

He was a long time member of the Grainton United Methodist Church, Ogallala Elks, and participant with the Wallace Roping Club. He worked rodeo stock with W.R. O'Connor for more than 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Perry and Wilbur; one sister, Ethel Anderson; and daughter, Carolyn.

He is survived by his wife, Letha; one son, Jim "Jan" of Hayes Center; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Hayes Center Union Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Fay Ann Blaylock officiating. Internment will be at the Wallace Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.
