TRENTON -- Bernard R. "Ben" Baker, 81, died Friday (April 1, 2005) at Bryan LGH East Hospital in Lincoln.

He was born June 2, 1923, to Ralph and Anna (Frank) Baker in Hitchcock County. He grew up in Trenton and graduate from Trenton High School in 1940.

He entered the United States Army Air Corp where he was a fighter pilot during World War II.

On Sept. 15, 1946, he married Marjorie L. Clark. The couple made their home in Trenton. She preceded him in death on Oct. 8, 1998.

On June 4, 2000, he married Kathleen Alexander. The couple lived in Trenton.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; one son, Thomas Baker and wife, Pat of Trenton; four daughters, Cathrine Buhler and husband, Dean of Loveland, Colo., Elizabeth Alig and husband, Kenny of Trenton, Christine Thornam and husband, Ron of Thornton, Colo., and Cindy Hinrichs and husband, Rob of Sterling; step-sons, Chris Alexander and wife, Susie of Boulder, Mont., Patrick Alexander and wife, Julie of York; and Kirk Alexander and wife, Tammy of Grand Island; sister, Berniece and husband, Lloyd Trimpey of Omaha; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and eight step-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial is Monday, 10:30 a.m., at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Sean Redmond officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be at Trenton Cemetery in Trenton.

Rosary will be Sunday, 7 p.m., at the church.

Memorials may be given in his name and friends may call Saturday at Herrmann Funeral Home in Trenton.
