ATWOOD -- Helen Ethyl Styles, 96, died Saturday (Feb. 5, 2005) at Decatur Health Systems in Oberlin.

She was born Nov. 14, 1908, to John C. and Emma Edith (Woods) Nelson in a sod house south of McDonald.

On Sept. 25, 1928, she married Olie F. Styles. She lived most of her life around and in Atwood. She worked at Good Samaritan Center, Taylor Rest Home. She was a foster mother, babysitter and homemaker. She also cared for the elderly in their home in Atwood. In 1998, she moved in with her daughter, Kathy after breaking her arm. In July of 2001, she moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Olie on March 25, 1972; daughter, Virginia and husband, Don Gunn of Arapahoe; son, Carl Styles of Omaha; daughter, Kathy Holle of Atwood; brothers, Russell, John Jr., William, Howard and Lowell; sisters, Caroline Miner, Nellie Denny, Ona Hallum, Wilma Nelson and Charity Andrews; and three grandchildren.

Survivors include sons, Carroll and wife, Daisy of Omaha, Delbert and wife, Kim of Phoeniz, Ariz., and Doyle and wife, Karol of Oberlin; daughter, Shirley and husband, Dave Nichols of Oberlin; 29 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Services are Tuesday, 2 p.m., at Brantley Funeral Home in Atwood with the Rev. Arlen Ankle officiating. Interment will be in Atwood Fairview Cemetery in Atwood.

Visitation is today until 9 p.m., and Tuesday, 9 a.m., until service time.

Memorials may be given in her name in care of Brantley Funeral Home of Atwood.
