ATWOOD -- Irene Elizabeth (Zwickle) Rummel, 95, died Friday (Dec. 3, 2004) at the Good Samaritan Center in Atwood, Kan.

She was born may 20, 1909, to Michael and Rosina (Allacher) Zwickle in rural Herndon. She attended school at Pleasant Ridge No. 9 and later moved to Atwood to work as a housekeeper and in child care.

On Aug. 12, 1931, she married Bill Rummel. The couple moved to a farm south of Atwood. In 1948, they moved in to town. In 1956, they moved to the Studer farm. The couple retired in 1965. The couple then traveled across the country.

She was a member of the Christian Church, Dorcas CWF, Tuesday Morning Coffee Group and Rebekah Lodge No. 331 where she served as District Deputy President in the group.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill on June 29, 1989; brothers, Walter, Harry, Herman and wife, Phyllis and Albert and wife, wife Mona; sisters-in-law, Anna and Mary Rummel, Emma and husband, John Schissler; brother-in-law, Tom and wife, Ella Rummel; and son-in-law, Harlan Ross.

Survivors include her daughter, Viola and husband, Donnie Castens of Ludell; son, Bill and wife, Barbara of Topeka, Kan.; sisters-in-law, Lora Zwickle of Oberlin and Golda Zwickle of McCook; many step-children; and step-great-grandchildren; eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services are today, 2 p.m., at Williams Funeral Chapel in Atwood. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Atwood.

Memorials may be given in her name to Good Samaritan Center in Atwood.
