LEXINGTON -- Ted Lockhart, 83, died Sunday (July 18, 2004) at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.

He was born Nov. 16, 1920, to Charles and Emma (Haskin) Lockhart in Smithfield. He grew up in rural Gosper County and graduated from Cozad High School.

On Dec. 20, 1939, he married Flora Chester in Cozad. On June 21, 1944, he entered the Army. He served in World War II and was honorably discharged Dec. 13, 1945.

He worked for Dawson County Motors for many years before moving to McCook where he started his career as a building contractor. His career took the family to Holdrege and they finally settled in the Lexington area, where he was a well-known residential contractor. After his retirement he worked at the Dawson County Historical Museum.

He was a member of the Berean Church, VFW and Cosmos Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Flora Aug. 19, 2002.

Survivors include his daughters, Teresa and husband, Glenn Lanman of Lexington and Roberta Reynolds of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; son, Lance and Earlene Lockhart of Omaha; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services are Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at the Berean Bible Church in Lexington with the Rev. Roger Daum officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Lexington with military honors.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m., at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Memorials can be given to the Berean Bible Church of the Dawson County Historical Museum.
