Freda (Ledbetter) Sramek

BENKELMAN -- Freda (Ledbetter) Sramek, 91, of Stratton, died Friday (Jan. 23, 2004) at Sarah Ann Hester Memorial Home in Benkelman.

She was born July 23, 1912, to Fred and Rebecca (Richardson) Ledbetter in Dell, Ark. Upon graduating from Tribune, Kan., High School in 1926, she traveled to Tennessee to learn stenography. Later she moved to Stratton to study nursing at Stewart Hospital.

On Dec. 26, 1933, she married Joseph Frank Sramek. The couple farmed south of Stratton in Kansas. In the early 1960s, the couple moved into Stratton where she worked as a nurse at Hitchcock County Hospital.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Stratton and St. Joseph's Altar Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Fred and Rebecca Ledbetter; her husband, Joseph in 1980; and half-brother, Owen Tucker.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Egle and husband, Loren of Stratton; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial is Tuesday, 10 a.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Stratton with the Rev. Bernard Lorenz officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Stratton.

Visitation is today, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., at Forch Funeral Chapel in Stratton. The rosary will be recited today, 7 p.m., at the Catholic church.

Memorials may be given in her name.
