KEARNEY -- Douglas E. Otter, 39, of New Almelo, Kan., died Sunday (Jan. 11, 2004) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born Sept. 27, 1964, to Marion and Marilyn (Hickert) Otter in Norton. He was raised on a farm north of New Almelo and attended school in New Almelo and Lenora. He also attended school at Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland.

He has resided in Lakin, Kan., and New Almelo.

On Aug. 18, 1990, he married Bridgitt Jones at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Almelo. He was an electrician for Iowa Beef, Holcomb and then Otter Manufacturing in New Almelo.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus of New Almelo.

He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Beulah Jones; grandparents, Frank and Margaret Otter and Al and Amanda Hickert; uncles Jim, Bill and Bob Hickert and Vermon Kotchwar; aunts, Carolyn Hickert and Bertilla (Hickert) Conroy.

Survivors include his wife, Bridgitt Otter of New Almelo; his parents, Marion and Marilyn Otter of New Almelo; son, Zachery of New Almelo; daughter, Joni Otter and fiance, Dustin Shellito; father-in-law, George Jones, Sr., of Norton; three brothers, Frank and wife, Levonne Otter of Clayton, Greg and wife, Tammy Otter of New Almelo and Steve Otter of Wichita; brother-in-law, George Jones, Jr., of Altus, Kan.; sister, Emily and husband, Gary Kessler of Lakin; and one granddaughter.

Services are Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Almelo with the Rev. Vincent officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in New Almelo, Kan.

The vigil is Wednesday, 7 p.m., at the church.

Visitation is Wednesday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin and Thursday after 8 a.m., at the parish hall in New Almelo.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Douglas Otter Memorial Fund.
