Clifford L. Schissler

ATWOOD -- Clifford L. Schissler, 81, died Sunday (Sept. 7, 2003) at Rawlings County Health Center in Atwood.

He was born Aug. 29, 1922, to Fred and Nanna (Carlson) Schissler west of Traer, in Decatur County. He graduated from Traer High School and later attended auto restoration school in Denver.

He was in the Army Air Force during World War II.

On Oct. 26, 1943, he married Blanche Elizabeth Simpson. She died in 1985.

On June 5, 1987, he married Lucy Ellen Pointer. He was a car dealer, operated an auto body repair shop and served on the Atwood Police Department for nine years. He formerly lived in Oberlin and Colby, Kan., and in 1955, moved to Atwood.

He was a members of Atwood United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men and a 50-year member of Sam Hubbard American Legion Post No. 46.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Blanche.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy of Atwood; two sons, Terry Schissler of Tampa, Fla., and Lee Schissler and wife, Jackie of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Janice Kessler and husband, Ron of Springfield, Mo.; one sister, Alice Hicks of Denver, Colo.; and nine grandchildren.

Services are Thursday, 2 p.m., at United Methodist Church in Atwood with the Rev. Terry McGuire officiating. Interment is at Atwood Fairview Cemetery in Atwood. A flag presentation by Sam Hubbard American Legion Post No. 46 will be conducted.

Visitation is Wednesday, 1-9 p.m., at Brantley Funeral Home and from 11 a.m., until service time at the church.

Memorials may be given in his name to Atwood United Methodist Church or Atwood Good Samaritan Center.
