Leona Bolliger

OBERLIN -- Leona Bolliger died Sunday (Nov. 4, 2001) at Cedar Living Center of Oberlin.

She was born July 15, 1910, at Scandia, Kan., to Mike and Inga (Hugos) Cuthbertson. She was raised in Norway, Kan., Oronoque, Kan, and Norton County, Kan. She graduated from Norton High School in 1930. She earned her teacher's certification. She taught in rural schools near Oronoque, Aurora, Kan., and Highland, Kan.

On April 21, 1934, she married Walter Bolliger at Logan, Kan. She was a homemaker. They lived on a farm south of Reager before moving to Idaho, and later to San Joaquin, Calif., where they lived for six years. Then they moved to a farm near Norcatur, Kan.

She was a member of the Norcatur Methodist Church, the Rebekah Lodge, Reager HDU, Royal Neighbors, Norcatur Civic Club, and Tuesday Coffee Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; one daughter-in-law, Shelley Bolliger; two brothers, Leon and Charles Cuthbertson; and two sisters, Veva Hatcher and Kay Higgins.

Survivors include one son, Rex Bolliger of Oberlin; one daughter, Linda Broyles and husband, Jackie of Haysville, Kan.; one sister-in-law, Eva Cuthbertson of Norton; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Norcatur with Jim Plotts and the Rev. Charles Keller officiating. Interment was at the Norcatur Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in her name to the Norcatur Citizen's Alliance.

Pauls Funeral Home of Oberlin is in charge of the arrangements.
