Delbert R. Eklund

Delbert R. Eklund, 73, died Thursday (Nov. 8, 2001) at Community Hospital in McCook.

He was born July 14, 1928, at Des Moines, Iowa, to Helena (Moore) and Daryll D. Eklund. He graduated from Council Bluffs High School in 1946. He attended college at the University of Nebraska in Omaha.

He served in the Armed Forces during peace time from 1946 to 1949.

In 1952, he married Mary Dorweiler at Omaha. They moved to McCook in 1953.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Daryll; and four infant sons.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Eklund of McCook; five sons, Chris Eklund and wife, Pat of Durham, N.C., Joe Eklund and wife, Amy of Berrien Springs, Miss., Mike Eklund of McCook, Tom Eklund and wife, Val of Trinidad, Colo., and Peter Eklund of Emporia, Kan.; one daughter, Anne Gallagher and husband, Mark of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two sisters, Lora Fletcher of Omaha and Anne Nielson and husband, Read of Oxford, Ohio; six grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. Gary Brethour officiating. Cremation will follow the service, and a private inurnment service for the family will be at a later date.

The rosary service will be Sunday, 7 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel in McCook.

Visitation will be Saturday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and Sunday 2 p.m. until the time of the rosary.

Memorials may be given to St. Patrick's School.
