Alvena F. Ecker

HERNDON -- Alvena F. Ecker, 93, died Sunday (Jan. 6, 2002) at Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.

She was born April 10, 1908, on a farm north of Herndon to Otto and Emma Ida (Wudtke) Schwarz. She was raised on the farm and attended the Richland School at rural Herndon.

On April 15, 1931, she married Elmer Ecker at Hernden. She worked as a school cook.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Oberlin. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1938; two sons, Lloyd and Eugene Ecker; one brother, Paul Schwarz; and one sister, Paulina Mosher.

Survivors include one son, Lyle Ecker of Aurora, Colo.; two daughters-in-law, Sharon Ecker of Herndon and Rogene Ecker of Central City; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be Friday, 11 a.m., at the Union Cemetery, rural Herndon, with the Rev. Chad Eckles officiated.

Visitation will be Thursday, 1-8 p.m.; and Friday, 8-10 a.m., at Pauls Funeral Home of Oberlin.

Memorials are being accepted in her name.
