BATESVILLE, Ark. -- Ema L. McIntyre, 94, died Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) at Woodlawn Nursing Home in Batesville, Ark.

She was born April 17, 1907, in rural Seldon, to Joseph and Jennie (Kiefer) Knitig. She attended school in a one-room building in Vickers Community.

On April 15 1928, she married Elgin S. McIntyre at Colby, Kan. They lived in Rexford where she was a homemaker and helped her husband at the McIntyre & Sons Grocery and Mercantile Store in Rexford. She later moved to Arkansas where she has lived for the last eight years.

She was a member of the Rexford Community Church, Social Hour Club, Lioness Club, American Legion Auxiliary and Red Barn Gang in Rexford.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elgin on June 28, 1976; four brothers, Joe, William, Ammen and Albert "Fritz" Knitig; and two sisters, Anna Claar and Lena Teiler.

Survivors include one daughter, Connie and husband, Norman Phillips of Concord, Ark.; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday, 2 p.m., at the Rexford Community Church with the Rev. Fran Harwerth officiating. Interment will be at the Rexford Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m. and Thursday, 9 a.m.-noon, at Pauls Funeral Home of Selden. It will resume at 1 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Rexford Community Church.
