Melba L. Huckfeldt

Melba L. Huckfeldt, 81, died Saturday (June 16, 2002) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

She was born July 3, 1920, to Lloyd and Susan (Carter) Haney in Gosper County. She grew up in Elwood where she graduated from Elwood High School in 1937.

On Sept. 12, 1937, she married Marvin Charles Huckfeldt. They made their home at Veteran, Wyo. before returning to rural Elwood in 1944. They moved in to Elwood in 1947. In 1961, they moved to McCook where she was a dietitian in the McCook School System until retiring in 1977.

She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church of McCook. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin; and one sister, Phyllis Meyer.

Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie and husband, Charles Nelson of Sidney and Pat and husband, Ron Penner of McCook; one brother, Harold Haney and wife, Dorothy of Smithfield; one brother-in-law, Norman Meyer of Kearney; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at the Peace Lutheran Church in McCook with the Rev. Carl Pullmann officiating. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m., in the Elwood Cemetery at Elwood.

Visitation is Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Memorials may be given in her name.
