Virgil D. 'Red' Hagan

CULBERTSON -- Virgil D. "Red" Hagan, 80, Culbertson died Friday (Aug. 2, 2002) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born Feb. 22, 1922, to Frank and Cora (Wilson) Hagan in Eddyville. He grew up in the Eddyville area. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He served under Genral Patton as a tank commander and earned the Purple Heart and Bronze and Silver Stars.

On Feb. 12, 1947, he married Velma "Tootie" Bice in Norton, Kan. He spent 25 years in law enforcement in Rooks County, Kan. He also spents several years patrolling in Lexington.

He was a member of the VFW Post No. 8873 of Stockton and Post No. 8871 of Plainville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma; his parents; one son, Virgil, Jr.; one brother, Floyd Hagan; a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.

Survivors include Lucille Hagan of Culbertson; two daughters, Connie Hinds of Kearney, Gloria Adkins of Minden; three sons, Larry Hagan of Gering, Corky Hagan of Plainville and Greg Hagan of Ellis, Kan.; six brothers, Harold of Anderson, Mo., Alfred of Spavinaw, Okla., Earl of Guthrie, Okla., Kenneth of Lexington, Clifford of Sutherland and Robert of Lexington; four sisters, Edith Cunningham of Gothenburg, Ellen Adams of Brownsville, Texas, Verla Whidby of Bullhead City, Ariz., and Velma Blythe of Brownwood, Texas; 15 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday, 10 a.m., at the First Christian Church in Lexington with the Rev. K.C. BeDunnah officiating. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington with military honors.

Visitation will be Monday, 2-8 p.m., at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.

Memorials may be given in his name to Disabled American Veteran's or the donor's choice.
