David A. Phillipson

SARASOTA, Fla. -- David A. Phillipson, D.V.M., 79, formerly of Holbrook, died Thursday (Aug. 15, 2002) at his home.

He was born Nov. 4, 1922, at Holbrook to Victor and Leah (Stevens) Phillipson. He grew up in Holbrook and graduated from Holbrook High School in 1940. He attended Hastings State College and Colorado State University, graduating from the school of Veterinary Medicine at Colorado State University in 1944.

In 1945, he married Estelle Linneman of Orleans.

He served as Captain in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corp. He practiced veterinary medicine with his uncle, Dr. Peter Phillipson in Holbrook for 10 years. He worked for Upjohn Company in Kalamazoo, Mich., before retiring as Senior VP and General Manager of the Agricultural Division and moving to Sarasota, Fla.

In 1995, he married Carol Crawford in Jefferson City, Mo. He was past president of the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association and American Veterinary Association.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Estelle in 1994; and one brother, Robert.

Survivors include his wife, Carol of Sarasota; three sons, David Phillipson and wife, Janet of Kalamazoo, William Phillipson and wife, Kathee of Milwaukee, Wis. and Steven Phillipson and wife, Spring of Duluth, Minn.; two step-daughters, Elizabeth Crawford and Jennifer and husband, Jon Jacoby all of St. Louis, Mo.; and twelve grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Saturday, 10 a.m., at the Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery northwest of Holbrook with the Rev. Dr. Hyeongdong Baek officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials are suggested to the local hospice or to the donor's charity of choice.

Williamson-Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe is in charge of arrangements.
