Arba 'Shorty' Norton Yost

IMPERIAL -- Arba "Shorty" Norton Yost, 82, died Friday (Sept. 6, 2002) at the Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial.

He was born Nov. 16, 1919, in Champion to Will and Alta (Inman) Yost.

On Feb. 14, 1941, he married Florence Mae Anderson in Goodland, Kan. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945, earning four bronze stars. He was stationed out of Fort Sill, Okla. He served in Normandy, Rhineland, Central Europe and Northern France. After returning to Imperial, he was a long-time employee of Cooks Ready Mix and the Frenchman Valley Coop. He also drove bus for the Senior Center and for the Chase County High School. He has lived in the Imperial Manor for the last 10 years.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for over 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Lois Faye Yost and Millie Louise Goodenberger; two brothers; three sisters; and one great-granddaughter.

Survivors include his wife, Florence; three daughters, Mary and husband, Charles Skinner of Ogallala, Tammi and husband, Dave Parker of Imperial and Connie Yost; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at the Imperial Berean Church with the Rev. Giles Armstrong and the Rev. Jerry Swesey officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home in Imperial.

A memorial has been established to the Imperial Berean Church.
