Dorothy Marie Scharvin

OXFORD -- Dorothy Marie Scharvin, 78, died Tuesday (Sept. 10, 2002) at her home in Oxford.

She was born Sept. 17, 1923, in Merrick County to William Walter and Anna Matilda (Otto) Blauhorn. The family made their home in rural Merrick County. She received her elementary education in country schools and graduated from Archery High School with the class of 1942. After high school she worked in the Aerospace Industry in California during the war years.

On June 22, 1947, she married Frank Martin Scharvin. They purchased several meat locker plants in Boone County from 1948 to 1955. In 1956, the family moved to Oxford where they built the Oxford Locker. In 1981, they sold their business and devoted their lives to Mid-Nebraska Individual Services for eight years, which provided housing for developmentally disabled adult men. She also worked in the Oxford School Elementary Department. She maintained some rental property until the time of her death.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Oxford, a Cub Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, the President of the United Methodist Woman Group, member of the Wednesday Club and a member of the Dorothy Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank in 1988; and her parents.

Survivors include four daughters, Nancy and husband, Bob Cockle of Raymond, Janet and husband, Dave Bridges of York, Linda and husband, Doug Frank and Kathy and husband, Bob Felker all of McCook; one son, Ronnie Scharvin and wife, Robyn of Oxford; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, 10 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Oxford with the Rev. Theta Dame officiating. Interment will be in the Central City Cemetery in Central City at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Visitation will be Friday from 1-8 p.m. at the funeral home with the family greeting from 6-7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in her memory.
