Dorothy Marie Huff Carleton

MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho -- Dorothy Marie Huff Carleton, 85, died Sunday (Oct. 27, 2002) at her residence in Mountain Home, Idaho.

She was born May 1, 1917, to Henry Boyd and Selma Ida (Schultz) Huff in McCook. Following the death of her mother, she lived with her maternal grandparents on a farm near Oxford and later near Merril, Wis. When her father remarried she moved back to McCook. There she attended both the public and Lutheran parochial grammar schools and graduated from high school in 1936. After graduation she worked as a nanny. In 1942, during World War II, she moved to Pocatello, Idaho where she worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a clerk-typist in the store's purchasing department.

In 1944, she met and married William Francis Carleton of Miami, Fla. He was a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Corps. Circumstances during the war took them to Pueblo, Colo., Lubbock, Texas, Tucson, Ariz., and in 1946, to Miami. In 1948, the family moved back to Pocatello, Idaho. In 1949, they moved to Grand View, Idaho. They later moved to Plattsmouth when her husband was transferred to Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha. They returned to Mountain Home in 1953.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. She was the leader of the Busy Bees Sewing Club in the 4-H program until 1968.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; and a sister, Marilyn Budde.

Survivors include her son, William B. Carleton and his wife, Nancy of Spokane, Wash.; four brothers, Howard Huff and Amor Huff both of McCook, Virgil Huff of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Robert Huff of Cantonement, Fla.; and one granddaughter.
