Leota Lucille 'Lucy' Harris Hanson

STRATTON -- Leota Lucille "Lucy" Harris Hanson, 87, died Friday (Dec. 6, 2002) at her daughter's home in Lincoln. She was born April 4, 1915, at Lamar, Colo., to Jesse Forrest and Caroline (Neu) Baker. She attended school in Lamar and was a member of the graduating class of Lamar High School in 1933. She later attended Western State College in Gunnison, Colo., and graduated from Marinello Beauty School in 1935.

On Dec. 31, 1936, she married Jack T. "Doc" Harris at Lamar, and she worked as a beauty operator while helping him complete medical school. After he received his degree in medicine, they moved to Laverne, Iowa where they started their family, and he started his practice. In 1957, they moved to Stratton, Nebraska, where she was a homemaker and the wife of a small town doctor. After his passing in 1980, she continued to make her home in Stratton.

On May 14, 1982 she married Fred E. Hanson at Benkelman, She moved to Lincoln in the summer of 2002 when her health began to fail.

She was a member of Community United Methodist Church, and was active in the United Methodist Women and the Stratton Community Club. She also help start the "Debs Girls Club" and worked as a volunteer for several years at Grandview Retirement Center in Stratton.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Jesse and Caroline Baker; husbands, Dr. Jack T. "Doc" Harris in 1980, and Fred E. Hanson in 1995; one infant son; and three brothers.

Survivors include her daughters, Patti and husband, Mike Odbert of Lincoln, Mona and husband, Leonard Faimon of Colorado Springs, Colo.; step-daughter, Geraldine and husband Morrison Sutton of Stratton; sisters-in-law, Jo Baker of Delta, Colo., and Barb Baker of Lamar, Colo.; seven grandchildren; two step-grandsons; five great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

A private burial was held Monday, at Fairmount Cemetery in Lamar. Memorial services will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at Community United Methodist Church in Stratton with the Rev. Norman Prather and Richard Stahly officiating. There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be given in her name to the Stratton Ambulance.
