OBERLIN -- Leona C. Glenn, 94, died Saturday (Feb. 22, 2003) at Oberlin.

She was born April 21, 1908, in Courtland, to Andrew and Elise (Steinkuhler) Spanjer. She and her family moved to Logan County, Kan., where she attended Dailey Grade and High Schools, having graduated in 1925. After graduation she passed a test and became a teacher at a one room country school southeast of Haxtun, Colo.

On Sept. 18, 1930, she married Harold "Rusty" Glenn in Sterling, Colo. She was a homemaker and teacher, living most of her life in the Haxtun area. While raising her children, she continued taking extension and correspondence courses through the Colorado State College of Education at Greeley, Colo., and received her elementary teaching degree. She taught school for the Haxtun School District for 25 years, retiring in 1973. In November 1999, she moved to the Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; daughter, Donna; son, Robert; son-in-law, Robert Blazek; three brothers, George, Clair and William Spanjer; two sisters, Stella Burns and Gladys Haynes; and one grandson. Survivors include one daughter, JoAnn Chaney and friend, Jerry Miles of Cheyenne, Wyo.; son, William "Bill" Glenn and wife, Jan of Dimmitt, Texas; daughter-in-law, Patricia "Pat" Glenn of Oberlin; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 11 a.m., at the Church of The Brethren in Haxtun with the Rev. Roy Pfaltzgraff officiating. Burial will be in the Haxtun Cemetery at Haxtun.
