Berdean M. Hazen

NORTH PLATTE -- Berdean M. Hazen, 84, died Saturday (March 22, 2003) at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

She was born Nov. 3, 1918, at Wallace, to Elmer and Jessie (Clemens) Russell. She attended school at Wallace and Grainton.

On Aug. 3, 1935, she married John Light and they lived and worked in various places in Nebraska.

On June 20, 1954, she married Frederick "Fritz" C. Hazen at Wellfleet in his parents home. They farmed southwest of Wellfleet until his death in July of 1976. She moved to Maywood in September of 1978. In August of 1981, she moved to North Platte.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wellfleet.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands; one brother, Frank Russell; and three sisters, Lois Osborn, Beryle Hure and Annabell Hornbaker.

Survivors include three sons, Leslie Hazen and wife, Bobbie of Sioux City, Iowa, Monte Hazen and wife, Julie of Maywood and Timothy Hazen and wife, Kim of North Platte; one daughter, Sandra and husband, Bernard Grung of Eden Prairie, Minn.; one sister, Florence and husband, Bud Schaffert of Ogallala; 10 grandchildren; one step granddaughter; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, 2 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Wellfleet with the Rev. Stan LaRue officiating. Burial is in the Wellfleet Cemetery at Wellfleet.

Visitation is today until 9 p.m. at the Blase-Wetzel Funeral Home in Curtis.

A memorial has been established in her name.
