ARAPAHOE -- L. Fern Johnson, 96, died Saturday (March 29, 2003) at the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe.

She was born Aug. 27, 1906, at Arapahoe, to Oscar F. and Grace L. (Horton) Moore. She grew up and attended school in Arapahoe and graduated with the class of 1924. After graduation she attended college at Hastings. She then taught several years in Gosper and Furnas Counties.

On June 22, 1927, she married Wayne E. Johnson. They made their home in Arapahoe.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 75 years. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women and the Royal Neighbors of America.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne; brother, Orval Moore; sisters-in-law, Hazel Moore, Gwen Moore and Doris Pierce; and one granddaughter.

Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn and husband, Wayne DeVries of Silver City, N.M.; a brother, Earl Moore and wife, Mercedees of Arapahoe; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Dr. Hyeongdong Baek officiating. Burial will be in the Arapahoe Cemetery at Arapahoe.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given in her name.
