KEARNEY -- Lucy P. Leonard, 94, formerly of Beaver City, died Sunday (May 11, 2003) at St. Luke's Village in Kearney.

She was born Sept. 21, 1908, at Beaver City, to James and Elvira (Vining) McCarty. She grew up on a farm south of Beaver City and attended county school. Later she attended Beaver City High School.

On May 29, 1929, she married Harry R. Leonard at Oberlin. They moved to California where they were employed in fruit orchards and other jobs for eight years. They moved back to the Kansas-Nebraska area where they were engaged in farming later moving into Beaver City. She moved to St. Luke's Village at Kearney in July of 1997, where she resided at the time of her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry on March 6, 1975; two infant daughters; two brothers, Glen and Cecil; four sisters, Margie McCarty, Grace Burden, Elsie Cozad and W. Faye Beins; and one grandson.

Survivors include three sons, Henry Leonard and wife, Vicki of Beaver City, Harry Leonard, Jr., and wife, Sandi and Russell "Ron" Leonard and wife, Sheri all of Kearney; one brother, Emery McCarty and wife, Elsie of Kearney; two sisters, Zona Volgamore of Beaver City and Jean (Dunn) LaFollette of Longmont, Colo.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 1:30 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City with the Rev. Dean Pofahl officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery at Beaver City.

Viewing and visitation will be Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City and prior to services Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given in her name.
