Sophia 'Sophie' M. Mock

ARAPAHOE -- Sophia "Sophie" M. Mock, 94, died Tuesday (June 3, 2003) at the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe.

She was born Oct. 8, 1908, at Arapahoe, to Ernest and Minnie (Mues) Niemeier. She was a life-long resident of Furnas County. She grew up in the St. Matthews area.

On June 1, 1930, she married Arthur Mock. They lived and farmed in rural Holbrook and later in Gosper County. They moved into Holbrook in 1967, while they continued to farm. She had been a resident of Prairie Pines in Arapahoe for four years and spend the past year and a half at Tri-Valley Assisted Living in Cambridge. She moved to the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center a couple of weeks ago.

She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church at Arapahoe, Trinity Golden Age Club of Arapahoe, Eastside Bible Study in Holbrook, the Holbrook Women's Club and was a 4-H Leader.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur on Aug. 18, 1983; an a brother, Herman.

Survivors include a son, Eldon Mock and wife, Ann of Holbrook; four daughters, Arlene Dillon of Kearney, Anita and husband, Skip Elfeldt of Sutherland, Carolyn and husband, Chuck Francis of Williamsburg, Va., and Lillian and husband, Dale Stromberg of Loveland, Colo.; two sisters, Melinda Niemeier of Arapahoe and Louise Lemmon of Arvada, Colo.; two brothers, Walter Niemeier of Cambridge and Clarence Niemeier and wife, Norma of Holbrook; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Dr. Carl Lilienkamp officiating. Burial will follow at St. Matthew's Cemetery of rural Arapahoe.

Viewing and visitation is today until 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Memorials may be given in her name.
