Rose (Hutfles) Scheve-Marintzer

HERNDON -- Rose (Hutfles) Scheve-Marintzer, 86, died Monday (June 9, 2003) at St. John's Nursing Home in Victoria, Kan.

She was born Oct. 27, 1918, at Herndon, to Joseph and Mary (Pettera) Hutfles. She grew up in the Herndon area and graduated from St. Mary's High School. In 1934, she attended a business secretarial college.

On June 6, 1945, she married Herman David Scheve at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Herndon. To this union one son, Terry, was born. Her husband preceded her in death.

On Sept. 1, 1948, she married Raymond "Lefty" John Marintzer at St. Mary's Catholic Catholic Church in Herndon. Four children were born to this union. She spent many years working as a secretary for the Herndon schools, retiring in 1987. She played the pipe organ at St. Mary's Church.

She was a member of the St. Mary's Assumption Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers Altar Society and a member of the Third Order of the Secular Franciscans.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman on May 3, 1947, and her husband, Raymond on June 16, 1976; a daughter, Mary Lynn; three brothers, Joe, Frank and Clem; two sisters, Mary and Anna; and one great-granddaughter.

Survivors include her sons, Terry Scheve and wife, Patricia, Randy Marintzer and wife, Anita and Jerome Marintzer all of Hays, Kan., and Gregory Marintzer and wife, Rita of Herndon; and 12 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary's Assumption Catholic Church in Herndon with the Rev. Damian Richards as celebrant. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery at Herndon.

A parish vigil and Christian Mothers Altar Society rosary will be recited tonight, 7:30 p.m., at the church.

Visitation is today until 5 p.m. at the funeral home and after 6:30 p.m. at the church.

A memorial has been established to the Rose Marintzer Memorial Fund.
