CAMBRIDGE -- Roy G. Hageman, 81, died Wednesday (June 25, 2003) at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge.

He was born Feb. 22, 1927, in Hayes, Kan., to George and Catherine (Stahl) Hageman. He grew up in the Plainville, Kan., area. He graduated from Plainville High School in 1940.

He entered the U.S. Army on Nov. 5, 1942, at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. He served with the 2nd Bombardment Company. He served two years in the Pacific flying missions to Luzon, China, New Guinea, Bismark Archipelago, Philipines, Western Pacific. He received a Distinguished Flying Cross Air Medal with three bronze oak leaf clusters. He was discharged at the rank of Technical Sergeant on Sept. 6, 1945.

On Jan 2, 1947, he married Virginia Long. They farmed near Plainville. The family moved to Nebraska in 1957. He farmed in Nebraska until 1965, when he moved to Cambridge. He started Hageman Construction and began doing building construction. Virginia preceded him in death on Oct. 23, 1969.

On Oct. 31, 1975, he married Hanna (O'Dell) Marts. The couple made their home west of Cambridge.

He was a member of the American Legion of Cambridge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in McCook.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia; and one brother, Clarence.

Survivors include his wife, Hanna of Cambridge; one daughter, Shelia and husband, Kenneth Colson of Cambridge; two sons, Robert Hageman and wife, Linda of Thorton, Colo., and Jeffrey Hageman and wife, Katie of Omaha; one step-daughter, Frani and husband, Jerry Chambers of McCook; two step-sons, Jim Marts and wife, Barbara of McCook and Robert Marts and wife, Tina of Bartley; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, 10:30 a.m., at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge with Roy Hart Jr. officiating. Interment will be at St. John's Cemetery in Cambridge.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Cambridge Rescue Squad.
