Larry Earl Jones

July 4, 1940 - July 16, 2013

CAMBRIDGE, Nebraska -- Larry Earl Jones, age 73, of Cambridge, died at the Cambridge Manor on July 16, 2013. He was born in Cambridge on July 4, 1940, to Marion and Helen (Johnson) Jones. Larry went to school in Cambridge graduating in 1958 from Cambridge High School. Larry was an outstanding athlete and was the Butch Luther Award winner in 1958.

On May 29, 1960, Larry was united in marriage to Retha Cherry in Cambridge. She preceded him in death on Oct. 31, 2002. Larry farmed with the family south of Cambridge in Furnas and Red Willow counties and later in Frontier. Larry loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, hunting deer, elk, pheasant and trapping and chasing coyotes with hounds. He had traveled to Canada to fish. Larry became a history buff on World War II, traveling to Europe with his sister Connie to visit many of the historical sights. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, CO-OP Board and a member of the Cambridge Rural Fire Board since 1967.

He is preceded in death by his parents and wife Retha.

Larry is survived by his daughter, Kim and husband, Delaine Soucie of Cambridge; son, Kevin and wife, Amy Jones of Montrose, Colorado; five grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Blake Soucie and wife, Shelby and son Bradyn; Bronson Soucie and wife, Cristin and daughter, Peyton; Bailey Soucie, all of Cambridge; Kelly Kernen of Boston; Jeremy and Jaclyn Pitt and Autumn and Riley of Omaha; brother, Walt and wife, Joyce Jones of Urbandale, Iowa; sister, Connie and husband, Tracy Deminski of Omaha, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Harold and Irene Cherry of Grand Junction, Colorado; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be Saturday, July 20, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Cambridge with Pastor Jeff Wulf officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Cambridge. The casket will be closed.

Visitation is Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Lockenour-Jones in Cambridge.
