LINCOLN, Nebraska -- Thomas Joseph Jones, 84, of Lincoln, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013.

He was born Sept. 11, 1928, in Cambridge, Nebraska, the oldest son of Thomas Peter and Josephine (Hougnon) Jones.

In 1940 the family moved to Indianola, Nebraska, where he graduated high school. He fought in the Korean Conflict, and when he returned to Nebraska, he enrolled at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln,where he earned a BA and MA in education. In 1956, he married Marjorie Ruth Speidel, a Lincoln school teacher. He taught industrial arts in the Lincoln Public School System, mainly at Whittier Junior High, for over 30 years. His first wife died in 1972 and in 1977 he married Mable Fredrickson of Carroll, Nebraska, also a Lincoln school teacher.

Thomas enjoyed square dancing, woodworking, building, bowling, was involved in the Knights of Columbus and was an usher at Cathedral of the Risen Christ. He is survived by his wife, Mable; sister, Agnes; brother, John; his three sons, Mike, Bill and Jim and grandchildren Chris and Stacy Jones, and great-grandson, Jackson Jones.

Rosary is 7:30 p.m., Sunday Feb. 3, at Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 'O' St. in Lincoln,

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at Cathedral of the Risen Christ, 3500 Sheridan Blvd. in Lincoln with Msgr. Robert Tucker officiating. Burial is at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society, 5733 S. 34th, Ste 500 (16) or American Heart Association, 1550 S. 70th St., Ste 100 (06).
