LINCOLN, Nebraska -- Lona Joyce Uerling, age 71, died Jan. 28, 2013, in Lincoln, Nebraska.

She was born Oct. 10, 1941, to Henry and Julia Bauer in Fort Morgan, Colorado.

She graduated from Prospect Valley High School in 1959 (Valedictorian), McCook Junior College in 1962 (Scholarship Award), and Kearney State College in 1970 (Magna Cum Laude).

She taught elementary school in Niobrara, Nebraska, and Elm Creek, Nebraska. She spent many years as a homemaker. In later years she did substitute teaching in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Lona was a very religious person. She was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church for 37 years and was an active member of the Altar Society.

She loved her home, her flowers and trees, and her birds.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, Don; by son, Michael of Omaha and by daughter Michelle of Lincoln; son-in-law, Travis Schumacher and much loved granddaughter, Olivia Rose Schumacher. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and cousins and by faithful and caring friends, Betty Mihm, Joann Davis, Marge Aten, and Janelle Richardson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by sister, Lucille and brothers, Arnold and Ronald, and by three infant sons, John, James, and Daniel.

Lona was a beautiful lady, a great friend, and a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.

Rosary service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A Street, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 7601 Vine Street, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Interment at noon Friday in St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery, Indianola, Nebraska,

Memorials to St. John the Apostle Church or St. John the Apostle School.
