ARAPAHOE, Nebraska -- Dean Erwin McCoy, 81, of Arapahoe, died Friday (Jan. 25, 2013), at the Cambridge Hospital, in Cambridge, Nebraska.

He was born on Feb. 6, 1931, to Stanley Pine and Ethel May (Holloway) McCoy at the family farm south of Holbrook, Nebraska. He began his grade school days at District No. 36 south of Holbrook. The family moved to Oregon in 1940 and returned to live in Arapahoe when he was in the eighth grade. He graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1948. After graduation, he farmed with his father, Stanley and older brother, Leland. He was called to serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean Conflict. He married Fern Monasmith on Aug. 17, 1958, at Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial, Nebraska. They lived on the family farm south of Arapahoe where he was active in his church, American Legion Post No. 96, 4-H leader of the Busy Bees Club, and Boy Scout leader. They moved to Arapahoe in 1998.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leland McCoy; grandsons, Hayden Dean McCoy and Richard Jay Lambert.

He was survived by his wife, Fern McCoy of Arapahoe; daughters, Marla and husband, Jim Prusa of Howells, Nebraska, Sue and husband, Harley Dean Lambert of Arapahoe; sons, Robin and wife, Maricar McCoy of Murrieta, California,Tim and wife, Diane McCoy of Hickman, Nebraska; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Arapahoe with the Rev. James Moshier officiating. Burial will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery with military rites given by the American Legion Post No. 96 of Arapahoe.

Viewing and visitation will be Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to the service at the church.
