CULBERTTSON, Nebraska -- Robert Eugene Ebert, age 65, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2012, at his home in Culbertson after a long battle with cancer.

He was born in McCook, Nebraska, on April 17, 1947, to Duke and Arliss (Nauer) Ebert. Bob was raised and went to school in McCook. He entered the US Navy in February of 1965, serving on the USS Fremont in Viet Nam. He was honorably discharged in September 1968.

Bob drove an over-the-road truck for over 42 years. He was united in marriage to Sheila Benjamin on Nov. 15, 1978, in Salina, Kansas. The couple made their home in Kanarado and Salina, before moving back to Nebraska in 1986.

Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and teaching others his handy work at welding and wood working. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Eagles. He was an avid pool player and belonged to the APA (American Pool Association). He loved his family and was a devoted father and grandfather.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard. He is survived by his wife, Sheila, of Culbertson; two daughters, Brenda Lavery and special friend, Mike Baumfaulk of North Platte and Pamala and husband, Brad Bailey of McCook, Nebraska; five sons, Robert D. and wife, Susan Ebert of McCook, John and wife, Carrie Ebert of Garfield, Kansas, Duke and wife, Becky Ebert, Bill Sink-Ebert and Rob Sink-Ebert, all of Culbertson; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Renea and husband, Dave Ashley of McCook; two brothers, Randy and wife, Becky Ebert of Gillcrest, Texas and Rick and wife, Sue Ebert of Big Springs, Texas and a special Aunt Charlie and Uncle Melvin Thielbar.

A gathering of family and friends to Celebrate the Life of Bob will be at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at 2 p.m. Friends are encouraged to come and share stories of Bob. Inurnment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery. Memorials may be left to Community Health Care and Hospice of McCook, Nebraska at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook in Bob's name.
