Bison teams draw second seed in GNAC Tournament

McCook High School's boys and girls basketball teams have earned a bit of respect among their fellow GNAC members.

Both Bison teams have drawn the second seed in their respective divisions at the 2012 Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference Tournament. The three-day event will open with first-round games Thursday, Dec. 27 at two locations in Columbus.

McCook fans will be able to watch both Bison teams in action in back-to-back first-round games Dec. 27 at the Central Community College Raider Fieldhouse, located just north of Columbus.

In the girls division, McCook (6-1) will face seventh seed Hastings (0-5) Thursday, Dec. 27, at 5:30 p.m. Win or lose, the Bison girls will play again Friday, Dec. 28, at 5:30 p.m. in either the championship or consolation semifinals.

The McCook boys (5-1) will open against seventh seed Lexington (2-3) Thursday, Dec. 27 at 7:15 p.m. The Bison will play again Friday, Dec. 28, at 7:15 p.m. in the championship or consolation semifinals, depending on the outcome of Thursday's action.

GNAC Tournament finals are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 29, with the girls championship game at 1:30 p.m. at the Columbus Senior High School gym, followed by the boys title game at 3:15 p.m.

Defending Class B state champion Scottsbluff (7-0) drew the top seed in the boys division. Class A Norfolk (4-2) is the top seed in the girls division.

All eight boys and girls GNAC head coaches seeded the other seven teams (not allowed to vote for their respective team). The coach's seeds were averaged to determine tournament seeds in both divisions.
