HERNDON, Kansas -- Lyle E. Hackney, 60, of Herndon, died Saturday (Dec. 1, 2012), at Herndon.

He was born April 9, 1952, in Atwood, Kansas, to Kermit and Betty (Lorimer) Hackney. He was raised on a farm south of Herndon. He graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1970. He served in the U.S. Navy.

He married Janet Stevenson on July 3, 2004.

He was a truck driver and a member of the Herndon Covenant Church, Oberlin American Legion, Herndon VFW and Herndon Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kermit Hackney.

Survivors include his wife, Janet of Herndon; mother, Betty Grout of Atwood, Kansas; sons, Coley (Chelsey) Hackney of Atwood and Tyler Hackney of Denver, Colorado; stepson: Carl (Jody) Stevenson of Anchorage, Alaska; stepdaughter: Janeize Stevenson of Norton, Kansas; brother, Marlin (Betty) Hackney of Kansas City, Missouri; sisters: Vicki (Roger) Houston of Denver, Colorado and Sandy (Ross) Vancuren of Peabody; one granddaughter, two step grand and five step great-grandchildren;

Services are Wednesday, Dec. 5, 1:30 p.m. at First Christian Church in Atwood with the Rev. Mike McVay officating. Interment is at the Rosefield Cemetery in Hitchcock County,

There is no visitation. Memorials may be given to the Lyle Hackney Memorial Fund.
