Gladys V. (Rathe) Skinner

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Gladys V. (Rathe) Skinner, age 79, of McCook, passed away Thursday Nov. 15, 2012, at Good Samaritan Society in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Gladys was born Jan. 4, 1933, in McCook, Nebraska, to parents Albert Ernst and Ella Ann (Alberts) Rathe. She was one of three children born to this union. Gladys attended school in McCook, graduating from McCook High School in 1951.

On Jan. 20, 1962, she married William Eugene Jones. William passed away on March 5, 1966. One daughter was born to this union, Melodie A. Reiners.

On Aug. 5, 1972, Gladys married Frank N. Skinner and in 1972 he adopted Melodie. The family made their home in the McCook area where Gladys was employed by the Red Willow County Sheriff's Department for 33 years.

Gladys enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, crocheting, crafting and spending time with her family and friends. Gladys was a member of the Red Willow County Sheriff's Posse and also was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in McCook.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband Frank N. Skinner, her father, Albert E., and her mother, Ella A. Rathe, as well as her mother-in-law, Alice L. Skinner.

She is survived by her daughter Melodie A. Reiners and Shannon Ziska of Grand Island; brother, Arlan (Beverly) Rathe of Culbertson, Nebraska; sister, Florence (Marvin) Potthoff of McCook; brother-in-law, Art (Nita) Skinner of McCook: sister-in-law, Luella (Dick) Bedlan of Clay Center, Nebraska; grandchildren, Joshua G. and Jessica A. Reiners of McCook and many nieces and nephews

Memorials may be given in Gladys' name, and may be left in care of her daughter, Melodie Reiners, 1417 N. Lafayette, Grand Island, NE 68803.

Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home in McCook.

Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, 10:30 a.m., also at Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Albertson officiating. Burial will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska.
