A plea from the Plains
Wednesday, October 3, 2012
To this self-feeder in a pasture northeast of McCook, Nebraska, SOS means "South Omaha Supply," but to the dry, thirsty plains of Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas, it takes on its more traditional message -- distress. With only 7 1/2 inches of measurable moisture since the first of the year, McCook's precipitation is 11 1/2 inches below normal. And the forecast isn't very promising. Pray for snow?
