Gene T. Files Sr.

June 14, 1928 - July 9, 2012

OBERLIN, Nebraska -- Gene Tunny Files Sr. was born June 14, 1928, in Cumberland, Maryland, the son of Chester and Edythe (Wolford) Files. He passed away Monday, July 9, 2012, at the Cedar Living Center in Oberlin, Kansas, at the age of 84.

Gene was reared in Cumberland, Maryland and graduated from high school there. He served in the United States Army for 20 years, from 1945 until 1966.

Gene was a veteran of the Korean War and attained the rank of Master Sergeant E8.

Gene married his former wife, Geraldine J. Swisher, on Nov. 25, 1949. A son and four daughters were born to their union. They were also blessed with five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Gene moved to Oberlin, Kansas, in 1995. He worked in the Dairy Department of Rayes' Grocery Store for 15 years, retiring in 2010.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Lloyd Files, Dale Files, Nelson Files and Dorothy Kalbaugh.

Survivors include his five children, Gene Files Jr. and wife, Missy, of Cumberland, Maryland, Susie and Joe Youngblood and Linda Files, all of Atwood, Sandy Spencer, of Cumberland, and Michelle and Kenny Richie, of Lenora; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Cremation was chosen by the family and no services will be held at this time.
