Student fees, superintendent's contract on school board agenda

McCOOK, Nebraska -- The McCook School Board of Education will have a public hearing to review the board policy concerning student fees, at its regular meeting Monday, 6:30 p.m. at the Junior High conference room.

Student fees is an account at the McCook Public Schools that can be accessed by students and their families who qualify for free and reduced lunches, to help pay for school activities, such as for art club, band, or physical education.

There was no activity in the student fee account for the 2011-12 school year.

After the public hearing and during the regular meeting, the board will be asked to re-adopt student fees for the 2012-13 school year, as part of board policy.

The board will also be asked to discuss the superintendent's contract.

In 2011, the board extended Grant Norgaard's contract through June 30, 2014, with a salary at $137,051 plus a Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance package valued at $15,600.

Other items the board will be asked to approve or discuss include:

* sale of district property on West Q Street

* approve the appointment of the superintendent to sign for federal state grants and funds

* approve the 2012-13 student handbook for McCook Elementary and Central Elementary

After the regular meeting, the board will meet in closed session to further discuss the superintendent's contract and the sale of district property.
