State plans to inventory McCook trees

Friday, March 30, 2012

McCOOK, Nebraska -- The City of McCook was informed that the Nebraska Forestry Service has chosen McCook as one of the 100 communities they will be conducting a full tree inventory of this year.

Public Works Director Kyle Potthoff told members of the Tree Advisory Board, Monday afternoon, that it had been approximately 10 years since the last inventory was conducted by the forestry service, which he believed was about average. "The survey will include species and age, it gives a good snapshot of information," said Potthoff. Potthoff said he had been informed that they would try to do public properties as well as street trees and he would have more information once an informational packet was received.

Board members were pleased to hear about the announcement and said the information can also help show the results from the city's tree rebate program.
