Shala and Paul Reitz

WELLINGTON, Kansas --Shala May Parrish and Paul Daniel Reitz were united in marriage on Saturday, June 25, 2011, at the Church of the Nazarene in Wellington, Kansas, with the Rev. Don Cross officiating.

Parents of the couple are Eugene and Tammy Parrish and Richard and Diane Reitz, all of Wellington. Grandparents of the bride are Virgle and Fern Stamper of Wellington, Dorothy Shimek of Jennings, Kansas and great-grandmother Florine Vernon of Oberlin, Kansas.

Grandparent of the bridegroom is Miriam Reitz of Lititz, Pennsylvania.

The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a white satin dress with a tulle overlay starting at the waist and had hand crocheted flowers cascading down the tulle. The bride hand crocheted the flowers on her dress, plus the accent flowers for the flower girls dresses as well. The dress was accented with a sage green satin sash with hand sewn crystal beading. Her train and veil had a sage green trim to accent them off. She crocheted white cotton slippers with a sage green flower to match her dress. The bride wore her mother's pearl necklace and bracelet. Her brown hair was curled down with the front pulled back.

The bridegroom wore a Kenneth Cole two-button black tuxedo with a white shirt accompanied by a sage green satin vest and tie to match his bride's sash.

The flower girls were Elizabeth Reitz of Wellington, and Josephina Thomas of Coffeyville, Kansas, both nieces of the bridegroom. They wore matching dresses that had a green top and had a tulle overlay starting at the waist to match the bride's dress. The tulle was folded so it could hold sage green and white flower petals. They also had a sage green crocheted flower to accent their curled hair. Each flower girl carried a white satin flower basket and dropped sage green petals down the aisle.

The ring bearers were Darius Ybarra and Trenton Ybarra of Derby, Kansas, both nephews of the bridegroom. They wore Kenneth Cole tuxedos to match the bridegroom with color coordinating sage green vests and ties. Each ring bearer carried a white satin ring pillow down the aisle.

Clayton Reitz, brother of the bridegroom, greeted the guests as they arrived. Bethany Reitz, sister of the bridegroom, was the guest book attendant while Julia Reitz, sister of the bridegroom, presented guests with a wedding program.

Serving as ushers were Michael Shimek of Irving, Texas, uncle of the bride and Travis Reitz of Wellington, brother of the bridegroom. They wore Kenneth Cole tuxedos to match the bridegroom with color coordinating sage green vests and ties.

Dorothy Shimek, the bride's grandmother, made the fountain wedding cake. It was a three tier white butter cream wedding cake hoisted up on pillars to cater for a water fountain surrounded with sage green roses and baby's breath. Each tier had a decorative ribbon around it. The cake topper was a bride and groom feeding each other cake.

Reception assistants were Sharon Parde, aunt of the bride, of McCook, Nebraska, Mary Ann Amack, aunt of the bride, of Oberlin, Michael Shimek, uncle of the bride, of Irving, Texas, Kay Thomas, sister of the bridegroom, of Coffeyville, Kansas, Alicia Ybarra, sister of bridegroom, of Derby, Almetta Iverson and Debbie Atchley, of Wellington, Cynthia Woods, aunt of the bride, of Medicine Lodge, Kansas, and Shea Koehn, friend of couple, of Wichita, Kansas.

A special memorial flower was presented to honor each grandparent in their loving memory. Following the ceremony, a dinner and reception was held at the Knights of Columbus.

The couple honeymooned in Missouri, where they visited numerous places.

The couple will reside in Wellington.
