ARAPAHOE, Nebraska -- Nora Althea Toomey, 89, of Kearney, Nebraska, formerly of Arapahoe, died Monday, (Jan. 23, 2012), at Mount Carmel Home in Kearney.

She was born Jan. 1, 1923, at Edison, Nebraska, to Joseph R. and Belle M. (Baker) Hunt.

She graduated school at Edison High School and attended Kearney State Teachers College in Kearney, Nebraska. After receiving her teaching certificate, she taught at Bartley, Nebraska, for one year before moving to a country school north of Arapahoe in Gosper County.

She married Jimmy G. Toomey on Aug. 30, 1945, at the McCook Air Force Base in McCook, Nebraska. They moved back to the farm in Gosper County, where they farmed until 1992, They moved to Arapahoe to retire. In 2001, she moved to Mount Carmel Home in Kearney.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and Friendly Circle Extension Club of Arapahoe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jimmy; three brothers, Ronald, Wilmer and infant, Elbert Hunt; and son-in-law, Paul Frink.

She is survived by daughter, Sharon Frink of Kearney; son: Roger and wife, Anetta Toomey of Creighton, Missouri; sister, Irene Stone of Denver, Colorado; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, in Arapahoe with the Rev. Michael Flury and George Probasco, officiating.

Visitation isThursday, Jan. 26, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to the service at the church.

Interment will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church of Arapahoe and the Arapahoe Fire Department.
