Cecil Carl Lafferty

KEARNEY, Nebraska -- Cecil Carl Lafferty died Tuesday Dec. 13, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska, at the age of 88.

He was born June 5, 1923, at Otis, Colorado, the son of the late William and Myrtle (Sines) Lafferty. Cecil grew up at Marion, Nebraska, where he graduated from high school.

On Sept. 16, 1944, Cecil entered the United States Navy serving in the Sea Bees during WWII. Following his honorable discharge from the military on June 1, 1946, he returned to Marion, Nebraska.

On Aug. 2, 1946, Cecil married Bonnie June Watkins at Oberlin, Kansas. They spent their married lives farming and raising livestock in the Marion, Nebraska, and Decatur County, Kansas, area.

Cecil retired in 1988 from the Danbury Coop. Cecil and June moved to Willow Ridge Retirement Center in 2002.

He was a member for over 60 years and past commander of the American Legion Post 276 and a member of the Beaver Valley VFW.

He was preceded in death by his wife, June on Nov. 20, 2004; brothers, Kenneth Lafferty, Virgil Lafferty, Wayne Lafferty and one sister, Lois Myers.

He is survived by a special friend, Virginia Myers; sons; Donald Lafferty and companion, Charmi Townsend of McCook, Nebraska, Lyle Lafferty and wife, LaVona of Scranton, Kansas, John Lafferty and wife, Lynette of Kearney, Nebraska; and daughters, Betty Florea and husband, Ralph of Hopkins, Missouri, Susan Campbell and husband, Dennis of Lodi, California and Sally Rowe and companion, Donn Topliff of Jewell, Kansas; one grandson, Scott Lafferty and wife, Kendra; 11 granddaughters, Amanda Lafferty; Patricia O'Neal and husband, Larry; Jenifer Childers and husband, Steve; Bonnie Trimble and husband, Mike; Kimberly Blackwell and husband, Robert; Jill Campbell; Kellen Lafferty; Kiley Luchsinger and husband, Jon; Stephanie Lafferty; Megan Lafferty and Amber Lafferty and six great-grandchildren; two sisters; Evelyn Stinnett and Jean Hunt.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at the Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with Rev. Lance Clay officiating. Interment will be 2 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Nebraska.

Visitation will be Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m at Herrmann Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given in his name and left at the Herrmann Funeral Home.
