STRATTON, Nebraska -- Geraldine Delores (Hanson) Sutton, 84, died Monday, June 13, 2011, at Community Hospital in McCook, Nebraska.

She was born Sept. 11, 1926, in Rawlins County, Kansas, to Fred Edward Hanson and Zelma Irene (Kessler) Hanson. She grew up on farms in Rawlins County, attended country grade school, and graduated from high school in McDonald, Kansas. For a brief time during her grade school years, her family lived with her mother's sister's family in Littleton, Colorado. After graduation from high school, she attended nurse's training school in Denver, Colorado.

On Aug. 15, 1948, she married George Morrison "Morry" Sutton in Stratton. They have two sons, Terry and Lynn. Gerry and her husband, Morry, lived on their farm north of Stratton until the December of 1991 when they moved into town.

Gerry was a member of the Community United Methodist Church of Stratton, Order of Eastern Star of Stratton, Busy Bee Club, Ladies Auxiliary VFW, American Legion Auxiliary and Daughters of the Nile.

She was involved with the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State and Buddy Poppy Programs, a loyal Red Cross Blood Program donor, and was also a Sunday school teacher for many years. She enjoyed writing letters and cards to relatives and friends, her annual cousins' (more like brothers and sisters) reunions, and most of all, her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Harley Laverne.

Survivors include her husband, Morry of Stratton; son, Terry Sutton and wife, Linda of Columbus, Nebraska, and Lynn Sutton and wife, Ann of Stratton; five grandchildren, Jason Sutton and wife, Sarah of Springfield, Nebraska, Abby (Sutton) Massey and husband, Jamie of Omaha, Nebraska, Ivy Sutton of Wheatridge, Colorado, Jake Sutton and wife, Nichole of Stratton and Kyle Sutton of Stratton; and five great-grandchildren, Adeline, Maya, Layne, Avery and Autumn.

She was a strong and patriotic lady, who was very proud of her family. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

Memorials may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, American legion Auxiliary or Ladies Auxiliary VFW.

At her request, the casket will not be open for viewing.

Funeral services are Thursday, June 16, 10:30 a.m., at the Community United Methodist Church in Stratton with the Rev. Brian Fong officiating. Interment is in Rose Hill Cemetery in Stratton.

Friends may sign her register at Herrmann Funeral Chapel in Trenton, Nebraska.
